Bikes 4 All is an award winning community bike enterprise in Leicester we are part of Groundwork Leicester and Leicestershire. We provide training and employment opportunities in cycling related activities and services to those individuals who are most deprived within our communities. Our work is focused around supporting individuals to improve their standard of living through engaging in employment or training, leading more active and healthier lifestyles, and through making a valuable contribution to the lives of others.
Bikes 4 All re-uses and recycles donated bikes from the public and from corporate sponsors across Leicestershire.
The idea began in September 2003 and has grown rapidly since then, now employing a team of qualified Bike Mechanics and Trainers delivering a wide range of cycling services and activities for the local community. These services include:
- Refurbished bike sales
- Repairs and maintenance
- Accredited and bespoke training programmes.
- Cycling solutions (including Mobile Workshop, Cycle Couriers and Icicle Tricycle)
Aims
Bikes 4 All is more than just a regular bike shop. Our ethos is community-led by supporting the local community to meet all of their cycling needs.
We aim to not only provide the infrastructure to enable more people to engage in cycling but also to build the skills and knowledge to become better cyclists.
Over the next 3-5 years, we will aim to:
Environmental
- Increase the total waste diverted away from landfill.
- Promote cycling and reduce the number of journeys made by car.
Social
- Create employment.
- Offer work-based training and job search support.
- Engage excluded groups into activities around cycling that meet their needs
- Provide low-cost bikes so that the wider community has the opportunity to engage in cycling.
Financial
- Increase our percentage of earned income.
- Diversify our funding sources so that not one funding organisation / income stream contributes more than 25% of our running costs.
- Establish or work towards the development of an asset base.
